Encouraging the Hiring, Retention and Return to Work of Experienced Workers — A Guide to Good Practices

In Québec, population aging is a growing phenomenon that organizations will have to deal with sooner or later. The coming years are likely to pose recruiting challenges for organizations because of workforce shortages.

Hiring, retaining and returning experienced workers to work is part of the solution to anticipated workforce shortages, especially since these workers are already showing a propensity to become increasingly active on the job market.

This guide proposes measures and good practices to encourage the hiring, retention and return to work of experienced workers in order to help organizations tap into this pool of talent in their workforce planning.

This guide is primarily intended for organizations wishing to encourage experienced workers to pursue their careers and promote the hiring and re-entry of experienced workers who have left the job market for shorter or longer periods of time.

This guide is also useful for experienced workers who wish to pursue their career for a longer period of time, benefit from a smoother transition towards retirement or enter (or re-enter) the job market after more or less extended periods of absence.

Implementation of this guide is voluntary and it applies to organizations of all sizes and in all sectors.
