Aggregates — Recycled Materials Produced from Concrete, Hot Mix Asphalt and Brick — Classification and Characteristics

Today, recycling has become a highly attractive option for reducing the amount of new materials used for road infrastructure and backfill. In this regard, standard BNQ 2560-600 classifies and establishes the physical, chemical, intrinsic, manufacturing and complementary characteristics relating to recycled materials which are made from concrete, bituminous coatings and clay bricks coming from construction or demolition sites, waste sorting centers construction or demolition or other producers of residual granular materials. It prescribes the requirements governing the following:

• classification and designation (RM recycled materials and CB recycled materials);
• general requirements (composition of recycled materials);
• specific requirements for RM-1 to RM-7 recycled materials (sampling, classification, granularity, intrinsic characteristics, fabrication characteristics, complementary characteristics; 
• special requirements for CB recycled materials.

The standard recommends complying with MELCCFP regulations for all matters relating to environmental characteristics related to metals, metalloids, other inorganic compounds and organic parameters).
