Accreditation services now provided by the Standards Council of Canada
The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is now the accreditation body for laboratory programs previously managed by the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ). This transition means that laboratories in Québec now apply directly to SCC for accreditation.
As part of the change SCC is responsible for all new and ongoing accreditations under the affected programs.
Accreditation apply to the following programs:
- ISO 15189 – Medical laboratories
- ISO/IEC 17025 – Testing and calibration laboratories
- ISO 17034 – Reference material producers
- ISO/IEC 17043 – Proficiency testing providers
SCC’s accreditation programs are based on international criteria that contribute to the recognition of laboratories both in Canada and abroad. The national and international recognition conferred by the SCC's accreditation program is a substantial value-added benefit, because it can favour free trade of goods and services in the context of market globalization.
Laboratories have varied evaluation expertise under the accreditation program. For example, it covers construction materials, mineral analysis, legal sciences, the agri-food industry, environmental management, biomedicine, electrical and electronic products, and calibration. Multiple testing fields are also covered, including biology, chemistry, physics, mechanics, optics and thermodynamic. New customers can request a quote to get started.
