ANSI AWWA C153

Standard ANSI/AWWA C153
ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 : Ductile-Iron Compact Fittings

For manufacturers of ductile iron compact fittings to be used for pipes conveying water under pressure, a significant number of factors must be considered to ensure a uniform and safe product. Standard ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 meets this need by establishing general and specific requirements pertaining to the physical, mechanical and dimensional characteristics of ductile iron compact fittings to be used with pipes for conveying water under pressure of 80 mm [3 in.] to 1600 mm [64 in.] in diameter using various types of gaskets. Standard ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 is the reference for assessing the compliance of compact fittings. It also provides information concerning sampling, testing and control methods applicable to ductile iron compact fittings (dimension characteristic control, testing methods and conformity control) as well as marking.

Certification Offer

Ductile iron compact fitting manufacturers interested in obtaining certification of their products’ conformity as well as work providers could benefit from procuring protocol BNQ 3221-900, which establishes the certification requirements, procedural rules and marking requirements applicable to the certification of ductile iron compact fittings to be used for pipes conveying water under pressure and conforming to ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53. By meeting the requirements of the certification program described in the protocol and other program documents, they can be certain that the BNQ will certify their products’ conformity and thus satisfy their clients’ needs. To obtain certification of their products, manufacturers must apply to the BNQ for certification.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
