BNQ 3009-900
Program for the recognition of training on the content of standards BNQ 3009-600 and BNQ 3009-610 — Recognition Document
Published in September 2021, the recognition document BNQ 3009-900 serves as a reference document for educational institutions wishing to have the BNQ recognize their training on the content of the standard BNQ 3009-600 Mold Contamination of Residential Buildings — Contamination Assessment and Building Rehabilitation or of the standard BNQ 3009-610 Contamination of Residential Buildings by Dry Root Fungus — Contamination Assessment and Building Rehabilitation.
In their regulations, regulatory authorities wishing to provide a better framework for activities related to the assessment and rehabilitation of buildings contaminated by mold or dry root fungus can refer directly to the standards BNQ 3009-600 and BNQ 3009-610 or to the program for the recognition of training.
The objective of the recognition program is to ensure that educational institutions provide adequate professional training that complies with the content of the aforementioned standards in order that the best practices defined within them are implemented by the participants involved. The BNQ does not, however, offer training dealing with mold or dry root fungus.
When a training program is deemed by the BNQ to be compliant with all the requirements, it is entered under the Recognized Training tab. A list of people who have followed a BNQ-recognized training program and obtained a certificate of achievement issued by the educational institution is available in Annex for each training program.
Recognition
The offer of recognition is geared to any educational institution wishing to have the BNQ recognize one or more training programs on the topics listed below:
a. Contamination Assessment (Chapter 5 of the standard BNQ 3009-600)
b. Building Rehabilitation (Chapter 6 of the standard BNQ 3009-600)
c. Contamination Assessment and Building Rehabilitation (entirety of the standard BNQ 3009-600)
d. Contamination Assessment (Chapter 5 of the standard BNQ 3009-610)
e. Decontamination and Corrective Work (Chapter 6 of the standard BNQ 3009-610)
f. Contamination Assessment and Decontamination and Corrective Work (entirety of the standard BNQ 3009-610)
Recognition is also offered to instructors who are not employed by an educational institution or whose services are not retained by such an institution.
It is important to note that the recognition program is not intended to certify people who work in the assessment or rehabilitation of buildings, but rather to recognize the compliance of a training program with defined criteria, such as those related to the instructor and training program itself.
To carry out investigation or decontamination work, it is possible to retain the services of an intervenant who has successfully completed one of the BNQ-recognized training programs. This list is available in the annex of each BNQ-recognized training course, in the two tabs above. NOTE: It is the client's responsibility to verify that the intervenant performing the work is qualified to do it. In fact, since the annex only lists the names of workers who have completed a BNQ-recognized training, it is recommended to have the name of the person who will be performing the work on hand to validate that he has obtained a certificate of completion for one of the recognized training programs.
