Unplasticized Poly(Vinyl Chloride) [PVC-U] Pipe and Fittings - Pipes of 200 mm in Diameter or Larger for Sewage and Soil Drainage

This standard sets out the properties and testing methods for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVCu) pipe with smooth interior walls, perforated or non-perforated, of a diameter from 200 mm to 1200 mm. More specifically, it applies to perforated or non perforated pipe that can be used for sewers or land drainage or to transport liquids by gravity flow.

The pipes are divided into two types:

  • Type 1, which includes pipe with a smooth interior and exterior wall and which is subdivided into two classes based on the SDR 26 and SDR 35 dimension ratio.
  • Type 2, which includes ribbed pipe with a smooth interior wall, that is, pipe with solid or hollow ribs.

The standard also applies to fittings fabricated from pipe ends and molded polyvinyl chloride fittings of a diameter of 200 mm to 450 mm.

Certification Offer 

Manufacturers may ask the BNQ to recognize the conformance of their pipes and fittings with BNQ 3624-135. To obtain certification of their products, the manufacturers must prove they comply with the standard’s requirements.

General requirements:

  • Requirements related to thermoplastic (PVC)
  • General characteristics of the pipes and fittings
  • Assembly

Special requirements:

  • Dimensional characteristics, including the location and dimensions of the perforations
  • Mechanical characteristics (rigidity, crush and shock resistance, tightness of joints and quality of fusion bonding of co-extruded multiple smooth wall pipes)
  • Chemical resistance
  • Solar radiation protection
  • Verification of the PVC extrusion quality of the pipes 
  • Verification of the moulding quality of PVC fittings 
  • Marking and handling

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
