Safety of Products and Materials in Contact with Drinking Water
Standard BNQ 3660-950 Safety of Products and Materials in Contact with Drinking Water
Drinking water quality is a major public health concern that demands the enforcement of strict requirements to products and materials in contact with drinking water. These requirements are specified in BNQ 3660-950, which specifies the materials covered by BNQ standard specification 1809-300. The standard sets out the requirements that products and materials in contact with drinking water must meet to maintain drinking water quality, and includes general technical clauses governing the installation of drinking water conduits in municipalities. The standard considers the impact on health and on the esthetic quality of water potentially resulting from products and materials in contact with drinking water. Some of the materials covered by the standard include the plastic, metal and cement use to manufacture pipes, gaskets, faucets and lubricants, among others.

Certification Offer
For municipalities, the use of certified materials and products to install or repair their water supply system is vitally important. The BNQ has therefore established a certification program based on BNQ 3660-950 to meet this need. The BNQ standard is based on four documents, including the BNQ 3660-959 certification protocol, which specifies the procedure that manufacturers must follow to show the conformity of their products with the applicable requirements.
This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
