Energy Management Systems — Requirements with guidance for use

Efficient energy management is an essential issue for any organization. Whether to realize savings, improve productivity or reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, there are good reasons justifying the implementation of an energy management system. ISO 50001:2018 Energy Management Systems — Requirements with guidance for use offers organizations a methodical approach allowing continuous improvement of their energy performance. The ISO 50001 standard particularly targets energy efficiency, use and consumption.

Although it can be used alone, ISO 50001:2018 presents several elements common to other ISO standards and integrates well with an environmental management system (ISO 14001) or a quality management system (ISO 9001).

Certification Offer

iso 50001

Organizations that want to have their energy management system recognized may address the BNQ, whose ISO 50001 systems certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). To obtain certification, the organizations concerned must prove to the BNQ that they comply with the requirements of ISO 50001. In particular, these requirements concern:

  • energy planning (energy review, reference consumption, energy performance indicators, energy goals and targets, action plans, legal requirements and other requirements);
  • implementation and operation (training, competency, communication, documentation, operational control, etc.);
  • verification (monitoring and measuring, compliance evaluation, internal audit, etc.);
  • management review.

By opting for certification of your energy management system by the BNQ, you can derive many benefits, whether to reduce your energy bill, lower your GHG emissions, benefit from assistance programs or have access to new markets.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
