Standard ISO 22000
Food Safety Management Systems

Food safety management has become an extremely important issue throughout the agri-food industry. To support the industry in this regard, the ISO 22000 standard was developed several years ago. Internationally recognized, the standard establishes the requirements governing food product safety management systems and is intended to ensure the production of safe food. It is meant for all stakeholders in the food trade (from farm producers to food services) and companies related to the sector (manufacturers of equipment, packaging materials, additives, etc.). The standard enables all of these companies to prove their capacity for identifying, controlling and eliminating food safety hazards with the establishment of an ISO 22000 food safety management system. This management system is structured, forms part of the company’s other management activities, complies with various standards in the ISO family (including ISO 9001 and ISO 14001) and conforms to the principles of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system.

Certification Offer

ISO 22000A company that can demonstrate its compliance with the ISO 22000 standard through certification has everything it needs to excel in its field. ISO 22000 system certification offered to food sector companies by the BNQ allows them to secure recognition that their food safety management system conforms to the requirements of the ISO 22000 standard. Certification is also available in areas related to the food sector, such as food packaging manufacturers companies and service companies working in food plants or for the agri-food sector (for example, equipment manufacturers, food plant clothing cleaning firms, pest control firms, etc.).

For ISO 22000 certification purposes, the BNQ is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). ISO 22000 companies certified by the BNQ therefore obtain international recognition through their certificate.

To obtain certification, companies must prove to the BNQ that their system meets the requirements of the standard, as set out in the ISO 22000 standard document.

This certification program is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada.
