FSSC 22000

FSSC 22000 Certification Protocol
FSSC 22000 Certification Protocol For food processing companies as well as companies that manufacture food packaging, the ability to prove that their products are safe and secure is vital. They therefore have every interest in obtaining the relevant certification. The FSSC 22000 (FSSC: Food Safety System Certification) international certification protocol meets this need by allowing companies in the agri-food sector that process food or manufacture food packaging to obtain recognized certification. The protocol guarantees that these companies have an adequate and effective food safety system that generates safe products. Accordingly, the protocol is based on standards such as ISO 22000, ISO/TS 22002-1 and and ISO/TS 22002-4.
The FSSC 22000 protocol is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). It was created by the Foundation for Food Safety Certification, its owner and copyright holder. Incidentally, certification agencies like the BNQ that issue certifications under this certification protocol are required to obtain a license from the Foundation.
Furthermore, for FSSC 22000 certification purposes, the BNQ is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC), a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). The certificates issued to companies that obtain FSSC 22000 certification through the BNQ therefore gain international recognition through the SCC and the FSSC 22000 Foundation.
NOTICE
The Board of Stakeholders of the FSSC Foundation has published version 5.1 of the FSSC 22000 certification protocol and has informed the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) of new requirements that have been incorporated for the continued accreditation of certification bodies such as the BNQ.
Thus, from April 1, 2023, only certification bodies with at least 50 FSSC 22000 certified customers will be able to continue to offer this certification. Consequently, due to this new requirement, the BNQ will unfortunately have to cease offering services related to this program as of April 1, 2023.
